The Crown Estate
Box Technologies deploys the Motion Computing J3500 Tablet PC as a portable tree survey and database reporting solution, capable of working in dense woodland and in the harshest of weather conditions. The mobile computing solution - coupled with the ability to link to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRM’s) and Web-based systems - gives the client (The Crown Estate) efficient access to tree data out in the field and the ability to instantly update records. Data collection, management programmes, work cycles and reporting are all key areas where The Crown Estate has been able to reduce intensive manual paperwork and maximise return on investment. The Motion Computing mobile solution was customised, delivered and supported by Box Technologies and deployed by WoodPlan.
Overview
WoodPlan is a partner of Box Mobile, a division of Box Technologies; it is a software company based in Guildford, Surrey. It specialises in software that enables its clients’ field-based workers to assess conditions and enter information regarding work recommendations, risk assessments, and health and safety. Information captured on site allows all available detail to be captured regardless of weather conditions: wind, dirt, dust or other outdoor challenges.
Field-based workers at The Crown Estate previously used pen and paper for data collection and reporting, resulting in high quantities of administration upon return to base. The mobile computing solution provided by Box Technologies provides an ergonomic design that’s especially adapted to the most challenging outdoor conditions, with an operating temperature as low as 0 degrees and as high as 40 degrees. The availability of advanced features such as a screen visible in brightest daylight, touchscreen input, and an outdoor carry strap make the Motion Tablet PC’s highly portable even in remote environments.
